- Choose Your Container: You can freeze buttermilk in ice cube trays, silicone molds, or small freezer-safe containers. I used silicone molds that hold 1/4 cup that I already had on hand. You can also use ice cube trays. They are great because each cube holds about 2 tablespoons of liquid, making it easy to measure.. Once frozen, pop the cubes out and store them in a freezer bag.
- Label It: Don’t forget to label your freezer bag or container with the amount and the date. Buttermilk will last up to 3 months in the freezer, so this will help you keep track of how long it’s been stored.
- Thaw When Needed: When you’re ready to use your frozen buttermilk, thaw it in the fridge overnight or at room temperature for a couple of hours. Give it a good stir or shake, as it may separate a bit during freezing, but it’s perfectly fine to use!

- Portion it out: Think about how much buttermilk you’ll need for different recipes, and freeze in those portions to make life easier when you’re baking or cooking.
